Youth doing dramatizations of what they studied in Bible class. Our pastors divided the youth into groups and gave them a little time to pick between 3 main themes of the class and then come up with a way to share it with the rest of the class. The three topics they could choose from where as follows;
1- Ask, Seek, Knock
2- The Gifts of the Father
3- The Golden Rule

Over the last few months in bible class, our youth

Over the last few months in bible class, our youth pastors have been leading our youth groups through a study of the Sermon on the Mount. If we really want to follow Jesus and obey Him, and want our youth to do so as well, we first of all have to know what he says. And what better way to do that than to look at His inaugural address as the King of Kings in the book of Matthew. From the Beatitudes to his radical teachings about life and how we are called to live in community with others, Jesus takes our expectations and our cultural understandings and he turns them upside down.
What our students are learning is that the Kingdom of Heaven which Jesus is ushering in, isn’t like the kingdoms of this world. The blessed aren’t the rich or powerful or the popular, but the humble, the poor in spirit, and those who mourn. He also teaches us about God as our Father, who we can seek out, who opens the door when we knock, and who loves us and provides for us. A Father that we can pray to and spend time with and trust. And when we give our lives to Him, we live as changed people, the salt and light of a world that desperately needs it, loving our enemies and giving to those in need.
The hope is that those lessons would take root in the hearts and minds of our students, and that they would hear the words of Jesus and put them into practice like the Wise Builder who builds his house upon the rock. So that when the rains come and the streams rise and the winds blow they would stand strong, with lives built upon the foundation that is the Word of God. #cadaniño #youth #youthgroup #biblestudy #studythebible #sermononthemount #jovenes #biblia #guatemala #cadanino

Acto Cívico, celebrating Independence Day in San

Acto Cívico, celebrating Independence Day in San Jose Pinula! We held 3 smaller celebrations in this center so that all our students could participate. Students served as the emcees for all our events and did a fantastic job, while other students participated by singing traditional songs, demonstrating traditional dances or reciting poems. They all did a great job and we are so proud of them all! Independence Day celebration and “acto cívico” in our Colonia Santa Fe center. Staff and students prepared an amazing event in honor of Guatemala’s 202 years of independence. We love using this occasion to celebrate and honor Guatemalas rich heritage of culture. Honor roll students came in with their sash and gloves as per tradition here. National anthem sung, traditional dances, poems and songs shared, as well as closing with a lunch of delicious traditional local dishes. We were blessed to have a visit yesterday from Orphan Outreach, and WOW Houston. They shared a lesson on prayer based on the story of Hanna. Then they led the students in an activity called the “five finger prayer@ to help them remember different people to pray for. To close the activity they broke into small groups to get to know the students better and to take some time to personally encourage and pray for them.
