So Much to be Thankful For in Guatemala

December 16, 2016This has been an amazing year for us in our ministry in Guatemala!
The Orphanage Fundaninos
Worked with the Independence Committee to better prepare the children for life outside the orphanage
Worked with the Discipleship Committee at the home to pour into the children spiritually and started a discipleship group with the boys
Taught 180 woodworking, carpentry, engineering and culinary arts classes to the students
Held the first annual Vacation Bible Camp on Missional Living with two mission teams and volunteers from our local church in Guatemala
Taught financial literacy classes to the high school students
Started an entrepreneurial program with students to create and sell their own products
Students in our vocational training classes have earned over $1500 in our classes this year and deposited their savings in to their own bank accounts
Spent countless hours counseling students who have or are in the process of transitioning out of the orphanage
Got vacation jobs for 5 of the high school students at the orphanage
Took a former student into our home as she transitioned out of the orphanage
Community Center in Colonia Santa Fe
Revamped our classes in Colonia Santa to include more children from the local community
+60 children enrolled in our afternoon classes which provided: prayer, Bible study, computer training and tutoring
Installed internet access at the center so children can study using online learning tools
Celebrated classes for the year with a trip to the zoo and a closing ceremony that was attending by over 100 people from the community
Our teacher taught over 275 classes at the center
Cadanino, Ministry to the Disabled
Assisted with setting up a daycare for 25 residents from ABI, the government home for the profoundly disabled
Sourced furniture and appliances, installed a security system and safety equipment, helped remodel the facility to better serve the children
Assisted with transportation to events and activities
BAM, Business as Mission
Opened a small coffee shop kiosk to provide job training to students from our culinary arts program at the orphanage and provide employment to women in Guatemala
We have two students from the orphanage who are working there for the Christmas holidays
Other Ministry
Assisted six mission teams in ministry
Attended the Christian Alliance for Orphans conference to learn how to better serve the children in our care
Hosted a missionary intern who we hope will return and serve with us
Spent countless hours loving, caring and ministering to those in our car
